What's on offer.

Whether you're just starting out or you've been singing for years and want to push further — the approach is the same: figure out what you want, work towards it, enjoy the process.

One-to-one.

Lessons are always 1:1 — never group classes. Your hour, your voice, your goals. We work on exactly what you want to work on, at exactly the pace that suits you.

In studio or online.

In-person at the Wigan studio (free parking, easy access from Manchester, Bolton, Warrington, Liverpool) or via Zoom from anywhere in the UK. Same lesson quality either way.

All styles.

Soul, pop, jazz, folk, musical theatre, contemporary, originals. Whatever you sing — or want to learn to sing — we can work on it together. No "this style only" rules.

What you'll work on.

Every singer's lessons look different — what you focus on depends on where your voice is and where you want it to go. These five areas cover most of what students bring me.
  • 01

    Vocal technique

Breathing, support, posture, range extension, tone control, mix voice, head voice, chest voice. The foundations that make every other element of singing easier and safer.

  • 02

    Performance & confidence

Stage presence, microphone technique, eye contact, working a room. The "hidden" skills that turn a good singer into a memorable one — and the ones nobody teaches you in school.

  • 03

    Style & repertoire

Finding songs that genuinely suit your voice. Stretching into new styles without losing what makes you sound like you. Building a working set list you can rely on.

  • 04

    Songwriting & originals

For students writing their own material — vocal melody, hook construction, lyric phrasing, demoing your own ideas. Plus practical advice on recording at home.

  • 05

    Audition & exam prep

Grade exams, college auditions, talent contests, drama school. Strategic song choice, performance polish, dealing with audition nerves. I've coached students through all of these.

Before your first lesson.

The questions I get asked most. Anything missing? Pop it in the enquiry message.

Lauren in a lesson
How much do lessons cost?

Standard 1-to-1 lessons are charged per hour, with a small discount for blocks of 4 or 8. I keep pricing simple and tell you the rate up front in your enquiry reply — no surprises, no "plus VAT". Block pricing is the same in-person or online.

I'm a complete beginner. Is that OK?

Yes — genuinely. The very first thing we'll do is check what your voice already does, work out what feels natural, and build from there. There's no "too beginner". The only thing that matters is whether you actually want to sing.

What age do you teach from?

From 12 up. Adults welcome at any age — I have students in their teens, twenties, thirties, forties, fifties and beyond. Voices keep developing your whole life; it's never "too late" to start.

In-person or online — which is better?

Both work. In-person at the Wigan studio means a proper room, a piano, no internet lag, and we can work with a microphone. Online via Zoom is more flexible for busy schedules and works just as well technically — I have many long-term Zoom students.

How often should I come?

Weekly is the gold standard — momentum matters with the voice. Fortnightly works for students with packed schedules. Monthly is usually too long a gap to maintain real progress, but we can make it work for hobby students.

Do I need to read music?

No. Many of my students don't read music at all and never will — singing is largely an ear-based discipline. If you want to learn theory, we can; if you don't, we won't. Either way you'll progress.

Can you help me prep for an audition or exam?

Yes — this is a regular part of what I do. Whether it's a college audition, grade exam, talent contest, or drama school entry, we can build a session structure around your deadline and target piece.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Just give me 24 hours' notice and we'll move the lesson to another slot — no charge. Same-day cancellations get charged in full (it's almost impossible to fill the slot at short notice). Block bookings give you slightly more flexibility on this.
